C.BASKER
CHOCKALINGAM BASKER holds degrees in Commerce and Law from the prestigious University of Madras where he was bestowed the Rt. Hon’ble Madhavan Nair Award for the best overall performance in law. After graduating, Basker set up a small scale industrial unit manufacturing Welding electrodes. Since then under his able stewardship, the unit has grown manifold and expanded to become one of the largest manufacturers and distributors connected to steel in South India known as the VNC group of companies. In recognition of his contribution to the growth of the small scale industries in Tamil Nadu, he was awarded the 'BEST Small Scale Entrepreneur Award' by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu in the year 1986.
BASKER is a Rotarian since 1988 and is a member of Rotary Club of Karur. Basker has served in almost all key district positions before being unanimously elected to serve as District Governor of R I District 3000 from 2000 – 2001. In recognition of his contribution in advancing the cause of the Rotary, Basker was awarded a “Citation for Meritorious Service” by the Rotary Foundation, USA.
BASKER is imbued with a sense of public service and holds many honorary positions: He is the President of the Karur Industrial Estate Entrepreneurs Association, Karur District Cricket Association,Karur Basket ball Club and the Karur District Volley ball Association and was the Secretary of the Karur District Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as a member of several Industry bodies including the Regional Advisory Committee to the Collector of Central Excise, Trichirapallai and the “Public grievance Committee”, set up by the Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs, Trichirapalli.
Basker is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the 'Vijay Shree Award', 'National Unity Award', 'Shiromani Vikas Award' and 'Hindu Gaurav Award' for outstanding performance in a chosen field of activity and in the service of society.
In his spare time Basker is an avid Bridge player and has won many tournaments. A lover of wildlife with a keen interest in conservation; Basker is widely travelled: to the USA, Europe, China, Africa and the South East.
Basker was the Chairman for the Rotary Institute 2013 held at Singapore. He serves as Rotary Coordinator for Zone V for 2013 -16. He is a member of the Membership Development and Retention committee of RI for 2014-2017. He was also the Chairman of the South Asia reception for Sydney, Australia Convention 2014.
Basker was the Rotary International Director for the years of 2017-2019.
Basker is married to Malathi and the couple has two sons Gokul and Goutham.
